The IEA (International Energy Agency) has now stated that “This significant increase in CO2 emissions and the locking in of future emissions due to infrastructure investments represent a serious setback to our hopes of limiting the global rise in temperature to no more than two two degrees”
I have been saying for years two things, that with the way developing nations are building coal plants, especially China which is now building a new Coal plant every 3.5 days and these plants having lives of 60 to 100 years And that there is no way that we could get governments and the UN to ever agree to actually do anything in time to stop it (The developed countries will never agree to become undeveloped and under developed ones will not agree to staying undeveloped.)
So we won’t be able to stop the coming warming of the planet. Yup I said it and I’ve said it before, we won’t stop it. All we can do now is two things, learn how to live with it and how to make it work for us. How can we make this not the worst thing that ever happened to us and instead be the best thing ever. We have to one, stop worrying about how to stop it because we can’t, won’t and are just waisting time and energy if we try to and two start dealing with it! No more big expensive and futile meetings on trying to stop it. Or limit it or blame people for it but instead to determine who will be the first to be affected by it and how we can save them from it.
We have to switch focus now, move away from futile wrangling over what is now more than anything a blame game, to something more productive like protecting cities, moving people to new lands and jobs and maybe changing the way we live with the sea. The thing we have to do is just decide to do it, and decide that we won’t just deal but will deal in a way to make it better.
We need less voices saying the sky is falling and more saying look at the opportunities we have to improve things for everyone. The time to stop this warming is gone. We can’t stop it now. Now we have to deal and with our technology and our ingenuity we can make it work for us and even turn it to our advantage.
