A shallow, 10 km, quake in the Tonga region today. No waves, damage or anything spectacular. Just the planet trying to rearrange the furniture. But there was also a 6 magnitude quake in the Philippines close to Samar, with reports of it being felt as far as Palo and San Joaquin.
There were also quakes in Taiwan and Japan, this whole side of the pacific is letting off pressure following the quakes in Vanuatu. Other than being in the western ring of fire there should be no other connections between these quakes. Maybe they are just making up for recent periods of little activity.
The fault system from Tonga to New Zealand has been quiet, but it probably won’t be for long.
