Mexico, Oaxaca, Quake

Interesting and damaging quake today in Mexico about 200 miles from Mexico City. A very strong quake at 6.4 to 6.8 range which caused significant damage considering the sparse population.

Felt across Mexico and lasting for quite a while it caused panic in Mexico City but little damage but closer to the epicenter houses damaged and some collapsed. The worst part seems to be a pedestrian bridge falling on a mini bus, flattened that bus. Must have been no passengers as it didn’t look like it would be healthy to be in the back of that thing.

After shocks are happening so the remaining stress on that part of the fault is being shunted to adjacent faults and sections of the fault. After shocks coming hot and heavy and will likely continue for months to come. A quake this size is not uncommon in the west side of North America and while families losing their homes is not good it could have been a lot worse.
